Biodex Medical Systems Inc will debut its Gait Trainer 3 to a global audience at the upcoming 2018 International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) World Congress, which will take place July 9-12 in Paris.

The Gait Trainer 3 is designed to incorporate music and the principle of neuroplasticity to help neurological patients to recover lost movement. It features a library of music written and composed by music therapists to help inspire correct movement in individuals who have lost function due to brain injury or disease.

The instrumented deck of the Gait Trainer 3 facilitates walking exercise with visual biofeedback, and provides objective reporting to demonstrate progress, the Shirley, NY-based company notes in a media release.

“When rhythm is introduced to a neurologic impairment, cognitive reconstruction is possible,” says Natalie Thompson, education administrator and applied clinician for Biodex, in the release. “This is the first time a music-based therapy component has been merged with biomedical technology to help patients with Parkinson’s disease and stroke regain walking.”
