Several hundred start-ups will once again be among the more than 5,000 exhibitors bringing their innovations for inpatient and outpatient healthcare to MEDICA 2019, scheduled for November 18 to 21 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

These companies will be at the numerous international country group exhibits including Israel, France and Finland.

MEDICA also offers creative young companies special event formats to present their products and enter into target-oriented dialogues with potential business partners. Examples of these are the MEDICA START-UP PARK, the daily MEDICA DISRUPT pitches at the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM as well as the MEDICA App COMPETITION and the INNOVATION WORLD CUP (all in Hall 13).

The schedule for the first two days of MEDICA 2019 includes the final rounds of the eighth MEDICA App COMPETITION (MAC) as well as the INNOVATION WORLD CUP (in the Healthcare category).

On Tuesday, November 19, the developer teams will present the best international healthcare app solutions at the pitch of the eighth MEDICA App COMPETITION (MAC), taking place in Hall 13. The prizes will be awarded on the same day.

MAC aims to drive the development of innovations for the daily use of patients, doctors and hospitals. Companies can apply until September 18, and a MAC jury rates entries according to the following criteria: Degree of innovation, commercial potential, technological feasibility, marketing approach, time required until launch and required investments.

This year’s first place winner will be honored with EUR 2,000, the second place will be awarded EUR 1,000, and the third place will receive EUR 500.

The INNOVATION WORLD CUP finals in the Healthcare category will take place November 18 at 1:00 pm, as part of the MEDICA DISRUPT program. Here, the best medical IoT (Internet of Things) solutions will be presented. Applications for this competition can also be submitted until September 18 – 10 finalists from several hundred applicants will have the opportunity to present themselves in the final.

The MEDICA START-UP PARK for visitors interested in start-ups and their concepts for improved and simplified healthcare will take place in Hall 13.  More than thirty start-ups have already registered. Six of them benefit from the support of the Merck Group’s global Accelerator Program. The strongly research-driven science and technology company based in Darmstadt, Germany supports start-ups with the aim of entering into a partnership with them. In addition to financing, it offers access to facilities and premises in the Merck Innovation Center and the opportunity to become part of a network of more than 50,000 experts and alumni in 67 countries.

The Accelerator programs of Merck and Bayer G4A are representative of a whole series of such funding initiatives. A new highlight for start-ups will be the Reverse Pitch at MEDICA 2019. It will follow the final round of the MEDICA App COMPETITION on November 19, starting at 3:00 pm on the stage of the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM. Companies will present their accelerator programs to win the favor of start-ups. First the start-ups introduce themselves, then the accelerators – and finally use the get-together to decide whether they are a perfect fit.

The boom in healthcare apps is also reflected in the daily MEDICA DISRUPT pitches at the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM. Here, more than 100 selected start-ups will present their products and solutions.
