Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, Allentown, Pa, recently signed a 5-year contract to manage a new 14-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit at Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) in Honesdale, Pa. As a result, Good Shepherd will now provide inpatient and/or outpatient physical rehabilitation care at 27 sites in seven counties throughout eastern Pennsylvania.
The relationship between Good Shepherd and WMH, which will commence in June of this year, is similar to the contract that Good Shepherd has with Easton Hospital. Good Shepherd will provide management staff for the WMH unit, including a medical director, along with program and operations development and census-building support.
WMH is providing the 12,000-square-foot unit, equipment and furnishings and all other staff, including physical and occupational therapists. The unit will be located on the top floor of a new building addition on the WMH campus. Specialized rehabilitation care will be available for people of all ages who require physical, occupational, speech and other therapies for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, stroke, hip and knee replacement, brain injury, spinal cord injury and amputations.
The partnership arose out of WMH’s desire to contract with an outside organization to manage its new inpatient rehabilitation unit.
