Sacramento-based Health Net is sponsoring the 3rd National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic, to be held September 19 – 25, 2010, in San Diego, Calif.

The Summer Sports Clinic promotes rehabilitation of body and spirit by teaching summer sporting activities to Veterans with significant physical or psychological impairments. Participation is open to U.S. military service Veterans who are newly injured from amputations, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and other neurological disorders. Sporting challenges such as sailing, surfing, kayaking, cycling, and track and field will be offered.

Steve Tough, president of Government Programs, Health Net, Inc, said in the press release, “Sponsoring the 3National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic is an excellent opportunity for us to give back to Veterans who have sacrificed so much.”

 

In addition, Nashville recording artist Barry Michael is partnering with Health Net to encourage Veterans to use rehabilitation therapy, including behavioral health support, to confront their challenges and to achieve their goals. Michael will perform Heroes and Angels, to all clinic attendees in San Diego and offer his song downloaded free of charge on[removed] Health net’s website[/removed].

Tough added, “We want to encourage Veterans and military families to use the various behavioral resources and tools available to them to help them thrive in the face of adversity."

On-site coaches will also be at the San Diego event to offer support and education for participating Veterans and their caregivers.
