Grace, from Santa Barbara, California, lost the use of her limbs at age 17 when she was struck down by a rare disease of the nervous system called acute flaccid myelitis. It left her completely paralyzed and in a wheelchair for life.

But she didn’t let this stop her from pursuing her dream of becoming a musician, with those talents seeing her accepted to the University of California Santa Barbara to study musical composition. Grace has said her love for the arts has helped her come to terms with the life-changing paralysis and realization she will never walk again.
