Smith & Nephew To Market New Product

BioSpecifics Technologies Corp, Lynbrook, NY, recently announced that Smith and Nephew Inc Wound Management Division, Largo, Fla, has become the active North American marketer and promoter of its FDA-licensed product, Collagenase Santyl® Ointment. Collagenase Santyl was previously marketed in North America by Knoll Pharmaceutical Company under license from BioSpecifics. The ointment is indicated for debriding chronic dermal ulcers and severely burned areas.

Partnership To Promote Telemedicine

Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore, and Lucent Technologies, Murray Hill, NJ, have agreed to promote worldwide telemedicine applications through the use of information technology. Under the agreement, Lucent and Johns Hopkins International (JHI) LLC will jointly design a secure, high-speed network to support Hopkins’ growing telemedicine applications and to manage incoming and outgoing information. The network also is expected to make it easier for patients from around the world to access Hopkins physicians and facilities. Hopkins will develop international offerings in the areas of health care consulting, patient services, education, and training. Lucent will provide the hardware, software, and networking expertise to support these services.

Beverly Chooses New Wound Care Vendor

Beverly Enterprises Inc, Ft Smith, Ark, selected DeRoyal Wound Care, a division of DeRoyal Inc, Powell, Tenn, as one of its advanced wound care vendors. The contract will be in effect until October 1, 2001. Beverly Enterprises recently reduced its number of wound care vendors from five to two. In addition to its comprehensive line of wound care products, DeRoyal was selected on the basis of its training and education strengths.

Launch of Rehabmanager.com

SL New Media, a New York City-based Internet company, has launched rehabmanager.com. The new site allows licensed therapists to create customized home therapy programs for their individual patients, maintain their licenses online through continuing education, purchase rehab supplies, and enhance communication. Patients can perform their home therapy programs online, monitor their progress, and learn more about their condition.

Seminar Tour To Span 40 Cities

An internationally known manufacturer of mobility products will present seminars this year in 40 cities throughout the United States. Pride Mobility Products Corp, Exeter, Pa, will embark on its US Seminar Tour 2000 using its Pride RV, a mobile training facility outfitted with the latest technology. Pride providers will participate in classes that encompass the entire scope of business strategy from sales and marketing to technical services for Pride products. New Sports Medicine Web Site

The Healtheon/WebMD Corp, Atlanta, and the HEALTHSOUTH Corp, Birmingham, Ala, recently announced the launch of the WebMD Sports and Fitness channel at www.my.webmd.com/sports. The Web site is designed specifically for active consumers who participate in recreational activities, as well as those who are injured and require rehab. Through original content, e-commerce, and third-party information, this channel for information focuses on sports medicine from prevention to treatment and wellness.

Fitness Equipment Co Produces Infomercial

Total Gym, San Diego, which provides products for functional rehabilitation, sports conditioning, and physical fitness, recently began airing its fourth infomercial. The infomercial once again features spokespersons Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley. Years before the modern infomercial appeared, the Total Gym drew the attention of physical therapists, trainers, and other sports medicine practitioners and has also established itself in the home exercise market. Today, Total Gym is used in more than 5,000 clinics, hospitals, sports training facilities, and universities nationally.

ATC-Affiliated Sports Site Introduced

Sx SportsMed.com Inc, Westport, Conn, offers personalized information and product solutions for avid sports participants. Through its affiliation with certified athletic trainers (ATCs), www.sxsportsmed.com brings sports medicine expertise directly to consumers. Ferno-Washington Inc, Wilmington, Ohio, recently made available two new in-service videos for the Ultralift 2000X™ and Steady-Aid™ patient lifts. The videos provide an introduction to the products’ use and effectiveness in transferring patients.
