Inside Track

Larry K. Beardall

Dynatronics, Salt Lake City, has been pioneering the development and advancement of low power laser therapy since its inception in 1979. The company now manufactures and/or distributes more than 1,000 products used by physical therapists, chiropractors, podiatrists, and sports medicine practitioners. Rehab Management recently had the opportunity to ask Larry K. Beardall, executive vice president of sales and marketing, about the company and how it has evolved over the years in the fast-moving rehabilitation marketplace.

Q: How has the market demand influenced the evolution of your company?

A: Dynatronics has always been a “market-driven” company. We believe much of the success of our company over nearly three decades can be attributed to our ability to respond to an ever-changing market.

Q: Of the company’s broad spectrum of rehabilitation and chronic pain control modalities, which product lines are most in demand?

A: The answer is easy—Solaris! For the past several years, Solaris has redefined the delivery of electrotherapy, ultrasound, and light therapy, combining all three modalities in one device.

Q: Tell us about your line of products for home use. Is this a growing segment of the market?

A: There is no question that managed care has forced patients to assume more responsibility in providing their own care. This has created an opportunity for companies like Dynatronics to provide products that can be used to treat in the home. Dynatronics carries a wide variety of products for the home market including self-care, pain management, and exercise products.

Q: Dynatronics recently released a light laser therapy product line for chronic pain sufferers. Can you describe this technology and its benefits?

A: Technological advancements are taking place in three areas. First, many of the new light therapy devices are much more powerful than the older laser products. Since light treatments are dose-specific, this is significant to the clinician since higher power translates into much shorter treatment times. Second, tremendous advancements have been achieved in making “unattended” light therapy treatments practical. With the recent introduction of the new Dynatron XP Light Pad, an entire low back, for example, can be treated in 6 to 9 minutes. Finally, exciting new applications of light at both traditional and nontraditional wavelengths are emerging. With the introduction of the new Dynatron 405 wound probe, blue and infrared light are combined to more effectively treat wounds.
