Wheels For Humanity Hosts LA Benefit

Wheels For Humanity, North Hollywood, Calif, will be hosting a fund-raising event in Los Angeles on May 8. “Spirit of Movement,” taking place at the city’s Skirball Center, will include a variety of sponsorship levels and benefits, with each sponsor receiving tickets to the event and a level of recognition in a commemorative book. Wheels for Humanity, founded in 1996, is a nonprofit group that receives donations of used and new wheelchairs and other ambulatory aids and medical supplies. The organization refurbishes the chairs and hand fits them for recipients using seating specialists. It has distributed more than 15,000 chairs in 40 countries to date.

FLA Orthopedics Creates Dealer Web Site
FLA Orthopedics, Miramar, Fla, has announced the creation of a Web site for every authorized FLA Orthopedics provider in the United States. The 1,300 provider sites include features like mapping, driving directions, and contact forms. FLA designs and manufactures a complete line of orthopedic, sports medicine, and bracing products, in addition to occupational/ergonomic supports, compression hosiery, foot care products, and seating and positioning wheelchair cushions.

Health care banking industry veteran Richard Drexler Clarke has joined Galen Capital Group LLC (GCG), McLean, Va, as a special advisor. Clarke has more than 30 years of experience, and was hired to extend and enhance GCG’s presence and service offerings. He has played a prominent role in consolidation efforts within the physical rehabilitation, long-term care, orthotics, and prosthetics sectors.

  • The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, White Plains, NY, has given its 2003 Wholeness of Life Award to Martha Piccininni, a nursing attendant who has been a Burke staffer for 25 years. The award is bestowed upon patient care professionals and community leaders who display a respect for the body, mind, and spirit of those they serve. In addition, the hospital has elected Jo-Ann Friedman-Rapaport to the Board of Directors. She has worked in the health and communications fields for more than 30 years as a clinician, consultant, and educator.
  • CARF, Tucson, Ariz, has announced the 2004 electees to its Board of Trustees. They are: Joanne Finegan, MSA, CTRS, who will chair the board for the 2004 term and succeeds Herb Zaretsky, PhD; James T. McDeavitt, MD, who will succeed Finegan as the first vice-chair/chair-elect for 2004; and Susanne M. Bruyere, PhD, CRC, who was elected second vice-chair.
  • John C. Daly, AIA, has been appointed vice president, health care services for McShane Construction, Rosemont, Ill. Daly was hired to lead the company’s growing emphasis on designing and constructing buildings for the health care market.
