The third annual Walton Foundation Wheelchair Tennis Championship is slated for August 2 to 4 and is expected to attract some of the nation’s best wheelchair tennis players from the Southeast. The event will be held at the Newman Tennis Center in August, Ga, according to a Walton Foundation news release.
The release notes that the event is also part of the Georgia Wheelchair Tennis Grand Prix, which also features events in Atlanta and Locust, Ga, ending in the USTA Georgia Wheelchair State Championships in Peachtree City in October.
Proceeds accrued by the tournament will go to support the Walton Foundation for Independence’s sports and leisure programs, which include monthly adaptive golf clinics, weekly wheelchair tennis clinics and adaptive golf player cards. The player cards offer adaptive golfers free play and use of an adaptive cart at the Forest Hills Golf Club. The Walton Foundation adds that clinics are provided to individuals 15 years or older throughout the CSRA with physical disabilities, including wounded warriors and veterans.
It is required that individuals desiring to enter the tournament are wheelchair users and current USTA members.
