Fractures Take its Toll on Women's Quality of Life


A study of 60,000 European women found that 90% of women with fractures reported more mobility problems, pain, anxiety, or depression.

The study, "Global Longitudinal Study of Osteoporosis in Women (GLOW)" from the University of South Hampton in the United Kingdom looked at patients across Europe as well as Australia. Seventeen cities and ten countries were surveyed in all.

When the women were suveyed about quality of life standards, including mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain or discomfort, and anxiety or depression, 90% of the  women reported that their fractures had long term affects to their overall quality of life, especially from spin, hip, and upper leg fractures.
