The American Physical Therapy Association, Alexandria, Va, reports that in 2009, 1,001 individuals attained certification, bringing to 9,409 the number of PTs who have become certified clinical specialists since 1985.

The newly certified clinical specialists also includes the first cadre of PTs certified in Women's Health.
