Clinicient is multiuser software that operates on the Microsoft SQL Server using Borland Delphi language. It is a comprehensive documentation program, created primarily for use in outpatient facilities in private practice, hospitals, and other rehabilitation settings. Its features include patient scheduling, therapist and resource scheduling, evaluations, treatment documentation, and data management; management reports such as utilization and productivity; clinical reports; certifications; and billing data including CPT codes, Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) edits, and unit calculations. It can run on desktop, portable, or tablet PCs.

The Application Service Provider (ASP) version, which is hosted remotely and accessed by users via a secure 128-bit encrypted Internet connection, requires a PC and Internet access, and costs $195 per user, per month, with a one-time setup fee of $500 ($2,500 minimum setup fee per customer). The Site License version, where the program is run on a customer's own servers and is distributed over their local area network, requires a $50,000 one-time license fee for up to 20 users ($2,000 for each additional user) with an annual maintenance fee of 18% in years two and on. Upgrades are included in the ASP version and are part of the maintenance contract of the Site License version. Clinicient provides complete system training and customer support.

HCS Interactant is a fully integrated, multisite, multiuser billing system designed exclusively for health care organizations such as multi-specialty clinics, physician group practices, long-term care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, acute care hospitals, and rehabilitation clinics and hospitals. All of its online, real-time applications are run on the IBM eServer iSeries platform, and are written in ILE RPG, Visual Basic, and VisualAge RPG languages.

The software automates the billing process. It supports multiple types of contracts, fee schedules, and reimbursement structures, and is controlled by payor/plan master files that are table-driven and user-maintained. HCS's billing system supports multiple reimbursement structures, rates, and codes. It also contains a fully integrated contract management application.

Other Interactant Modules include medical records, registration, accounts payable, general ledger, executive information systems, fixed assets, human resources management, physician billing and referral, radiology, order entry, clinical staffing and scheduling, pharmacy, and wireless handheld devices.


HCS dedicates a full-time team of Application Specialists during implementation, and then assigns a dedicated Account Manager to monitor the client's site. Interactant supports data entry via mouse, keyboard, bar code, magnetic strip, pen stylus system, scanners, and touch screen; on lap-top, handheld, and desktop PCs; and through wireless connections.

The company specializes in providing health systems that are designed around client needs rather than providing an off-the-shelf solution. Price is dependent upon facility size and application mix.

WorkWell is multiuser-based, Internet-enabled documentation software for environments such as private practices, rehab facilities, acute care facilities, nursing homes, and any practice interested in providing occupational health services such as functional capacity evaluations (FCEs), functional job descriptions (FJDs), and prework screening (PWS). It runs on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP3, uses Java/Flash/Active X Components languages, and can integrate with Microsoft Word.

The software tools work to match a client's functional capacity with a job description, giving referral sources access to critical data, and facilitating timely return to work decisions. The Internet tools streamline documentation and report generation, eliminating dictation and transcription services.

Features include documentation in real time during or following FCE performance, and documentation and formatting of job analysis information to provide a functional job description and prework screen. Customer support includes 1-800 number availability at no charge with annual membership. Navigation training is provided at no cost to all system purchasers, and upgrades are automatic via the software. In addition, the IWS Internet-enabled application is included at no charge with program purchase. There are nominal usage fees for FCEs, FJDs, and PWSs. Users can also enter a credit card and prepay usage fees.

RehabExpert integrates all systems required by rehab therapists today, including prospective payment system (PPS) support, outcomes, billing, and documentation. For contract rehab companies, OutcomesExpert includes a central module that is used to manage critical data elements that must remain consistent for several facilities, automatically collect data from facilities overnight via modems, and generate scheduled reports and billing documents. Both products support several billing arrangements for Medicare-A PPS, Medicare-B fee schedules, and managed care, while minute utilization reports provide information about patient treatments that are not in compliance with established resource utilization group (RUG) levels.

New features include audit tracking, user authentication, and encryption for data transfer and email. Other features include patient admission and discharge tracking, treatment and evaluation tracking, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 700/701 plan of treatment with SmartText, interdisciplinary outcomes, discipline-specific outcomes with modality tracking, word processing, contract rehab invoices with support for PPS and managed care billing, labor hour tracking, payroll tracking, facility profit reporting and billing forecasts, referral source tracking, therapist/patient scheduling, accounts receivable system, and therapist productivity graphs and reports.

Both packages can be used with Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP. Prices range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on number of sites, and whether data is managed at a central office or on facility computers.

The SQL is a fully integrated package designed to eliminate duplicate data entry, transcription, medical record errors, missed charges, and IRF-PAI entry errors. It also integrates with all major house-wide information systems.
