Cushion: StarLock™ Cushion
The air adjustable StarLock cushion is designed to address postural changes and changing seating needs by reducing pressure, improving posture, and increasing patient stability with the cushion's locking system. This is achieved by locking each cell in place through the cushion's StarLock technology. Multiple valves can be added to the standard-, mid-, and short-contour cushions to enhance stability and positioning in either a front-to-back, side-to-side, or four-quadrant configuration. There is no additional cost for multiple valves or compartments. The StarLock cushion, like the company's other cushion lines, comes in a variety of sizes ranging from the pediatric to the bariatric. Pediatric sizes start at 12 inches x 12 inches. Adult cushions range from those that fit a 16 inch x 16 inch to a 22 inch x 22 inch wheelchair. Bariatric cushions go to 34 inches in width. In addition, Star Cushion regularly produces customized cushions for clients with special seating needs including any shape, differing cell height, or special cutouts. Star Cushions come in a variety of heights ranging from two to four cells. The average cushion weight is 2.5 to 3 pounds. The StarLock Cushion retails for $419. The standard (4 cell), mid (3 cell), and short (2 cell) contour cushions with single, dual, or four valve configuration have a suggested retail price of $375 per cushion. The CXR Cushion retails for $435. These prices include a fitted cover, pump, and repair kit for cushion sizes ranging from 12 inch x 12 inch to 22 inch x 22 inch as standard.
Star Cushion Products offers a 24-month manufacturer limited warranty on all of its Star Cushions, including the StarLock Cushion, and a 30-day warranty on the cushion cover for manufacturer's defects in material and workmanship. The company will replace or repair any defect in material and workmanship during the warranty period. Once it is repaired, the product will be shipped back to the customer free of charge.
Star Cushion Products provides a trained customer service department to support its products. In addition, the company maintains a specials department, which constructs any custom orders. Custom orders typically ship within a week of order. Standard cushions, if ordered before 3 PM CST, are normally shipped the same day.
Routine maintenance of the StarLock Cushion-or any of the Star Cushion wheelchair cushion line-consists of a daily check to ensure that the cushion is adjusted properly and that the end user is immersed into the cushion. The cushion can be cleaned by using a hospital-grade disinfectant, soap and warm water, or baking soda (or vinegar) and warm water. The cushion cover can be machine washed in warm water with cold rinse with a normal to mild detergent. The cover can be machine dried on a low temperature setting or line dried. All Star Cushions are repairable. Repairs can range from fixing simple cell punctures to replacing a row or group of damaged cells. With each repair, quality control ensures the product is operating effectively and is continuing to perform to the company's standards.

The air HIGH PROFILE, LOW PROFILE, QUADTRO SELECT, CONTOUR SELECT, ENHANCER, and MOSAIC and the air and foam AirLITE, HARMONY, and nexus SPIRIT can all be adjusted while the user is seated. The ROHO Group's SELECT Series consists of four adjustable individualized chambers. By pushing the knob to the closed position, the user can maintain this desired sitting posture. This valve also allows the user to selectively change their position throughout the day as their particular activity demands. The cushions range from one pound to four pounds and are sized to fit chairs from 13 inches x 13 inches to 28 inches x 20 inches. ROHO's cushions can be customized to fit the needs of individual patients. When properly sized and fitted to the client, there is no weight limit on the cushion. The cushions' neoprene material passes the Crib 5 flammability test. The SELECT Series cushions retail at $409 and come with a 3-year limited warranty. In addition, the company offers a line of ROHO MOJO accessories, including designer cushion covers and wearables for its customers.
ROHO supports its cushions with a customer service department available by phone Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM CST. The company's sales department includes OTs, PTs, and nurses. The training and education department includes rehab and wound care specialists that offer CEU programs and sales training to distributors and dealers. The company Web site offers detailed information about its products, case studies, repair policies, loaner programs, and testimonials. It also includes a retailer locator.
The cushions can be cleaned with soap and water. The cover can be machine washed on gentle cycle and hung to dry. A repair kit is provided with each cushion. The company does have a repair department for more extensive repairs. To complement this program, ROHO has a loaner program providing a cushion to the customer while theirs is being repaired.
ROHO is code verified in all standard seat cushion categories under the new Medicare seating policy.

Cushions: Evolution PSV™, ProForm NX™, Zoid PSV™, Stratus™
VARILITE's air-foam flotation technology couples multi-stiffness foams with air. Air supports the load, while foam keeps the air where it is needed, preserves the cushion shape, and prevents bottoming out. The cushion's valve releases air to immerse the user in the foam, and the different stiffness foams conform to the client. The company's new ProForm NX is available with a dual-chamber cushion to accommodate pelvic obliquities, and with a contoured base that can be modified for leg length discrepancies, windswept deformities, amputations, or other asymmetric support conditions. VARILITE cushions are available in a full range of sizes from pediatric (12 inches in width) to adult (20 inches in width) to bariatric sizes (24 inches in width). The cushions are lightweight with the heaviest being three pounds. The company has several products in its wheelchair cushion line. The Evolution PSV™ is a skin protection and positioning cushion, and includes a pressure setting valve. The ProForm NX™, was launched at Medtrade, is a modifiable skin protection and positioning cushion for individuals with asymmetric positioning requirements. The Zoid PSV™ is a lower profile, tapered skin protection and positioning cushion, which includes a pressure setting valve. The Stratus™ is a low profile positioning cushion.
New retail prices were just announced at Medtrade at an expected range from $425 to $475 depending on size. The SRP for the positioning cushion is expected to range from $200 to $225. The cushions, excluding the cover, have a 2-year warranty. The warranty statement and instructions for submitting a claim are available on the company's Web site. The company maintains a customer service department Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 4:30 PM PST.
The cushions are easy to use and maintain. All are self-inflating, so no pumps or other accessory tools are required. A turn of the air valve lets air in or out of the cushion. The pressure setting valve gives clients a precise way to adjust their cushion. The cushion covers are machine washable. All of the cushions are repairable. Repair kits and a repair service are both available.
