Static Progressive Stretch Proves Effective

Joint Active Systems Inc (JAS), Effingham, Ill, announces that the abstract "Using Static Progressive Stretch and Stress Relaxation in the Treatment of Glenohumeral Joint Adhesive Capsulitis" will be presented at the 2001 Combined Sections Meeting for the American Physical Therapy Association in February 2001. The study was coordinated by Robert Donatelli, PhD, PT, to determine if the JAS Shoulder System is effective as part of a home program for patients with a diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis. The group using the system not only gained more external rotation, but also made secondary gains in shoulder elevation without specifically working that motion. The JAS Shoulder System utilizes a stress relaxation loading condition and static progressive stretch to improve range of motion.

Volunteers Make a Difference at Triathlon

More than 45 employees from Aspen Medical Products, Long Beach, Calif, helped bikers, swimmers, and runners cross the finish line at the 7th annual San Diego Triathlon Challenge to benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF).

The CAF assists hundreds of physically challenged athletes with grants for training, equipment, and costs. Nearly 450 participants competed in the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and 13.1-mile run. CAF supporter and actor Robin Williams finished close to the leaders of the bike race.

"[Aspen Medical’s] decision to offer volunteer support was made by our employees," says Doug Johnson, president. "Since we produce products that are designed to prevent or treat spinal injuries, they felt that this event would provide a heartwarming blend of inspiration and fun with a cause they can easily relate to. When given the opportunity to volunteer, they stepped up in big numbers and were not disappointed."
