PTPN Signs New Outpatient Contract

PTPN, Calabasas, Calif, has signed a contract to provide outpatient rehabilitation services for the PPO, POS, and HMO enrollees for group health coverage of Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Company, Denver, and its subsidiary organization, One Health Plan of Tennessee. The contract covers physical, occupational, speech, and pediatric therapy for 60,000 plan members in Tennessee.

Iowa Health System Receives Award

Iowa Health System, Des Moines, Iowa, has been honored with the Ernest A. Codman Award by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The award recognizes excellence in the use of outcomes measurement by health care organizations to achieve improvements in the quality and safety of health care. Iowa Health System won the award in the multiple organization category for a project to improve diabetes care for 58,000 patients served by 11 hospitals across Iowa. As a result of the disease-specific care initiative, hemoglobin A1c levels, which are higher for diabetics, have been reduced to near-normal levels of 7%.

Spaulding Launches Community Information Network

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Network, Boston, has introduced the Community Information Network for Individuals with Disabilities (CINID) as a means to eliminate barriers and bridge the digital divide for these individuals. Spaulding is launching CINID in partnership with 19 organizations, including the City of Boston’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the Boston Public Libraries, and the YMCAs of Greater Boston.

Genesis To Purchase Homeward Rehab

Genesis Rehabilitation Services, Kennett Square, Pa, has signed an agreement to purchase the assets of Homeward Rehab Inc, Cincinnati, further expanding Genesis’ long-term care contract therapy into Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri. Homeward Rehab’s 411 therapists currently service 33 long-term care facilities. Dina Wilheim, an occupational therapist, and founder and CEO of Homeward, will join Genesis Rehabilitation Services following the merger.

Benchmark Expands Operations

Benchmark Medical Inc, Malvern, Pa, has acquired the physical therapy practice of Advanced Orthopedic Surgical Specialists, Montgomery, Ala, from Warren Pinchback, MD. Benchmark also announces the expansion of its Orthotics and Prosthetics Division through the acquisition of Uniontown Orthopedics, which serves patients from locations in Uniontown and Waynesburg, Pa, and Cumberland, Md. In addition, the company has acquired Health Trax, a four-unit outpatient rehabilitation practice in southwestern Pennsylvania. Gene Zappa, founder and owner of Health Trax, has joined Benchmark.
