Canine Companions for Independence

Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit organization that provides highly-trained assistance dogs and ongoing support, will hold a special open house event for military veterans, active duty service members, and their families and friends, August 9, from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be assistant dog demonstrations, refreshments, entertainment, games, and prizes.

The Society for Cognitive Rehabilitation is an international association of professionals providing cognitive rehabilitation for those with brain injuries and other neurological issues.
The theme of the conference is "Cognitive Rehabilitation Across the Spectrum." Presentations at the event are geared toward occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, psychologists, neuropsychologists, and educators.
Topics will include inpatient cognitive rehabilitation, approaches to joint therapy and effective cognitive rehabilitation treatment. Registration deadline is September 5.

Hands-on seminar is designed to allow attendees to conduct an FCE from beginning to end and leave with confidence in FCE skills. Learner objectives include the following: *Perform a Functional Capacity Evaluation from planning stages through reporting. *Perform an FCE safely. *Set the parameters of the FCE by choosing the appropriate tests, outcomes assessment tools, and other evaluative methods. *Objectively assess sincerity of patient effort. *Be a skilled and active observer throughout the FCE to determine validity of objective findings. *Apply acquired or improved skills specific to actual test administration. *Create meaningful, useful and defensible outcome reports with final assessments and recommendations that contribute directly to case resolution. *Leave the seminar with enough hands-on experience to begin performing FCEs right away.
