Julianna M. Arva Receives Award of Distinction from University of Pittsburgh

Julianna M. Arva, ATP, was recently honored by her alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), Pittsburgh. Arva received the Distinguished Alumna Award on the occasion of the School’s 40th anniversary.

Arva was lauded by SHRS’s Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology in recognition of her accomplishments, leadership, and success in the rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology fields.

“Julianna’s talent and energy have benefited not only our school and numerous students but also her employer and her professional associations," said Clifford E. Brubaker, professor and dean of the school. " She sets a fine example for others to follow.”

Arva received her master’s degree in rehabilitation science and technology (RST) at Pitt and is the European manager of sales and education for TiLite, an international wheelchair manufacturing company. She is responsible for business development across Europe and education and training, funding and field support, clinical relations, and product development guidance.

Arva previously held a clinical position as rehabilitation engineer at Children’s Specialized Hospital, NJ, managed pediatric services for Permobil US, and was manager of education for Permobil Europe. She has extensive clinical experience in seating and mobility for adults and children.

Active in standards development and clinical practice guidelines, Arva led the writing on the RESNA position paper on pediatric mobility and she continues to support RST and SHRS through conferences, workshops, and internship opportunities. She has mentored and helped recruit outstanding students from Europe, and has opened doors for students from her native Hungary to study in RST.

SHRS includes programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation science and technology,  athletic training and sports medicine, communication science and disorders (speech language pathology and audiology), and health information management.
