Pride Donates Wheelchairs, Cushions to Earthquake SurvivorsPride Mobility Products Corporation, Exeter, Pa, has donated new wheelchairs and seat cushions to nonprofit humanitarian organization Gleaning For The World, Concord, Va, which will be shipped to survivors of the January earthquake in Haiti. According to organization sources, wheelchairs have been one of the most requested items in Haiti due to injuries sustained from fallen buildings. “When we saw the devastation in Haiti, and the countless life-changing injuries that would require wheelchairs, we knew that we had to get involved with mobility solutions fast,” said Mark E. Smith, Pride Mobility’s consumer research manager. “In the midst of this profound tragedy, it's been our privilege to assist those in Haiti with the mobility products that we manufacturer and make a daily difference in lives.” Founded by Reverend Ron Davidson, Gleaning For the World recovers excess medical and essential supplies from US industries and sends them to where they are needed in the world. According to Davidson: “Gleaning is working with several nonprofits to expand the medical care for the critically injured. Thousands have lost limbs to the falling buildings and do not have the funds to purchase wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and other devices to assist them in walking. A person without this equipment is destined to beg for a living for the rest of their life. With the donation of wheelchairs we can help a person support themselves, literally changing their life and future.” Information for donations can be found at the Gleaning For the World website at www.GFTW.org.
