The Foundation for Physical Therapy has announced a gift of $100,000 from the American Physical Therapy Association’s Section on Women’s Health to establish an endowment fund for research in women’s health physical therapy.

Foundation Board of Trustees Chair William G. Boissonnault, PT, DPT, DHSc, FAAOMPT, expressed gratitude for the contribution. “The foundation is very grateful for this generous contribution from the Section on Women’s Health. We appreciate their support and look forward to working with the section to fund research that will vastly improve women’s health through physical therapy interventions,” he said.

“We are excited to establish this endowment through the Foundation for Physical Therapy to ensure the future of evidence-based women’s health physical therapy,” said Wendy Featherstone, PT, and president, Section on Women’s Health.

Founded in 1977, the Section on Women’s Health was developed with the purpose is promoting and expanding physical therapy’s role in women’s health and wellness. Encompassing more than 2,500 physical therapists that treat patients of all ages, the section provides a number of resources to its members, including continuing education training, publications, mentoring, networking, and regional and national meetings.

“This partnership represents our maturing profession and will fill a large gap in research on physical therapy interventions to improve patient-reported outcomes and other measures for our patient populations,” said Ann Marie Flores, PT, PhD, CLT, director of research, Section on Women’s Health.

Donations are being accepted to the Section on Women’s Health endowment fund and may be sent to the Foundation for Physical Therapy, a national, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality and delivery of physical therapy care by providing support for scientifically based and clinically relevant physical therapy research and doctoral scholarships and fellowships.
