BraunAbility announces the acquisition of B&D Independence Inc, maker of power transfer seat bases for wheelchair accessible vehicles.

The Winamac, Ind-based manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vehicles sees this partnership opportunity as a way to help individuals easily transfer from a wheelchair to an accessible vehicle’s driver or passenger seat.

“B&D is a tremendously respected name in the mobility industry, says Nick Gutwein, BraunAbility CEO, in a media release. “This partnership will allow us to collaborate on more customer-centered design, resulting in a mobility experience that is more intuitive and effortless for our customers.”

As a wholly owned subsidiary of BraunAbility, B&D will continue to operate from its home base in Mt Carmel, Ill, and be overseen by its CEO John Evans. In addition, its products will continue to be sold through its dealer network.

Also, BraunAbility will provide added resources to support the growth and expansion of B&D’s range of products, with a continued focus on innovation and improving the way wheelchair users interact with its accessible vehicles, per the release.

“Our companies have grown and evolved into world leaders in mobility because our commitment to improving customer lives guides our decisions,” Evan states. “We share a similar culture and core values, and I am confident our customers will benefit most of all from this partnership.”
