While visiting New York City to promote “Beakthrough Starshot,” Dr Stephen Hawking chose to use the Aquatec OceanDual shower chair for his personal hygiene needs.

The stainless steel, tilt-in-space shower/commode chair, available from Oakdale, Pa-based Clarke Health Care Products Inc, reclines up to 45 degrees. In addition, the head supports, foot rests, sling back upholstery, and tilt-in-space movement are all adjustable, according to the company’s website.

Dr Hawking’s recent project, “Breakthrough Starshot,” is a quest to send Nano spacecraft to Earth’s neighboring star system, Alpha Centauri.

Vanity Fair magazine sponsored Dr Hawking’s New York visit and also contacted Clarke Health Care Products about providing the shower chair. National Seating & Mobility, based in Garden City, NY, arranged the purchase of the shower chair and delivered it to the various hotels where he resided during his visit, per a media release from Clarke Health Care Products Inc.
