Thought Technology Ltd, Montreal, offers an on-site workshop on headache treatment on Friday, October 2.

A media release from the company notes that the workshop, called “Bio-behavioral Diagnosis and Treatment of Primary Headache Disorders with Dr Steven Baskin,” will focus on the many advances in the diagnosis and treatment of migraine, cluster headache, tension-type headache, and their many variants.

Attendees will receive a thorough overview of the diagnosis of the different headache disorders. They will also learn about the disorders’ pathophysiology, as well as about various treatment alternatives and their clinical efficacy and underlying pain mechanisms, per the release.

Also discussed will be behavioral and psychophysiological protocols, clinical studies on paradoxical effects of medication overuse in relation to treatment outcome, chronic migraine, and issues of psychiatric co-morbidity, the release explains.

Instructor Steven Baskin, PhD, is a co-director of the New England Institute for Neurology and Headache in Stamford, Conn, and is an attending psychologist at Greenwich Hospital of Yale-New Haven Health. He had previously founded the behavioral medicine service at the New England Center for Headache. He is a past president of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB). He is a current member of the board of directors of the Headache Cooperative of New England (HCNE) and a past board member of the American Headache Society and the Connecticut Psychological Association, the release notes.

Baskin lectures frequently at national and international meetings, and has published on primary headache disorders, the release continues.
