Casa Colina, Pomona, Calif, is scheduled to present its 20th and Meets Sea Sports Camp, August 5-7 in Long Beach, Calif, at Marine Stadium and other sites in the Long Beach area.

The goal of Land Meets Sea Sports Camp is to introduce adaptive water, land, recreation, and competitive sports. People with varying levels of ability will have the opportunity to participate in numerous sports activities including hand cycling, jet skiing, water skiing, outrigger canoeing, and sailing. Wheelchair sports include quad rugby, hockey, basketball, and tennis. Another of the benefits offered by the event is that those participating for the first time can try new sports, while veterans can return to engage in activities they may already have enjoyed for many years.

According to a media release from Casa Colina, the Outdoor Adventures staff is comprised of certified therapeutic recreational specialists along with trained volunteers to ensure a high level of safety for all participants.

The diversity of people who attend is said to be one of the event’s most notable aspects. Each year the camp reportedly draws participants from children to adults with a wide range of disabilities. The event’s organizers report that they welcome beginners as well as those with experience, as they participate in challenging recreational activities.

Organizers behind Casa Colina Outdoor Adventures program state in a media release that the event focuses on abilities rather than disabilities to enable its members to experience success both physically and emotionally. The program is said to utilize the outdoors to create unique opportunities where people with disabilities can enjoy a sense of community, gain self-confidence, and share new experiences with people of all abilities.

Casa Colina reports that last year’s event attracted 75 participants with the support of more than 50 dedicated volunteers from the community.

The fee for the 3-day camp is $300, which includes participation in all events, lunches, goodie bag, and a t-shirt.

More information about attending the camp, sponsorship opportunities, or offering assistance as a volunteer is available by contacting Casa Colina’s Outdoor Adventures office at (909) 596-7733, ext 4131.
