As the new CEO of Birminham, Ala-based Source Medical Solutions Inc, James M. Cofffin, PhD, is expected to leverage his healthcare IT expertise and lead the company forward in its growth and evolution. Coffin joins the company with what a Source Medical Solutions media release characterizes as “a wealth of leadership experience in the healthcare and life sciences IT industries.”
The release also notes that prior to taking on the new role at Source Medical Solutions, Coffin served as worldwide vice president, general manager, and global practice leader of Dell’s healthcare and life sciences division. According to the release, Coffin transformed the Dell business unit from a maker of personal computers aimed at the HCLS industry to a leading provider of healthcare IT services and solutions.
Coffin reportedly was at Dell for a 6-year term, where he is said to have worked among leadership figures associated with major medical centers, instrument vendors, payors, and biotech and pharmaceutical companies. He also is reported to have been a pioneer in efforts at Dell to bring leading-edge information technology into electronic medical records, cloud computing, claims processing, and data analytics.

Source Medical Solutions has also reported the exit of former CEO Ralph Riccardi, CEO, who has left the organization to pursue other opportunities. “Ralph has been at SourceMedical since 2005 and has played a major leadership role in growing the company from a small niche vendor to the trusted industry leader it is today,” MacInnis says. “We thank Ralph for his leadership, significant contributions, tireless work ethic, dedication, and loyalty to the company during his many years of service, and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
