The 2014 Minnesota Senior Games expects to see 1,522 athletes from 28 states; the competition runs from August 1 to 9.

Competitors can also qualify for the 2015 National Senor Games (presented by Humana), slated to be held in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Bloomington July 13 to 16, 2015, according to a news release issued by the Minnesota Senior Games.

The release adds that in 2013, a total of 372 older adult athletes from Minnesota competed, and in 2014, there will be 1,320 competitors from Minnesota. Additionally, the games will feature 66 older adult athletes from Wisconsin, 23 from Iowa, 18 from North Dakota and 17 from South Dakota.

According to the release, games include 5k and 10k races, archery, badminton, basketball, billiards, bowling, cycling, disc golf, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

The National Senior Games is reported to be one of the largest multi-sport events in the world for adults aged 50 years and older, with 13,000 athletes and more than 30,000 athletes expected to attend.

The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) governs the 2015 National Senior Games and is a nonprofit member of the United States Olympic Committee that promotes health and wellness for adults 50-and-over through education, fitness and sport.
