The Jan and Niles Davies Learning Center at Helen Hayes Hospital to Host Free Child Safety Seat Event Sept 9

Helen Hayes Hospital’s The Jan and Niles Davies Learning Center, in conjunction with the Stony Point and Haverstraw Town Police Departments, will host a Child Passenger Safety Seat event, featuring free seat checks, September 9.

A news release from Helen Hayes Hospital notes the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 75% of child safety seats are installed incorrectly or do not properly fit the children riding in them. Since traffic accidents are reportedly cited as the leading cause of death for children aged 12 years old and younger, the release states that Helen Hayes Hospital is working with organizations such as the NHTSA, the National Child Passenger Safety Board (CPS), and Safe Kids USA to lower this statistic.

As part of this effort, during the free Child Passenger Safety event at The Jan and Niles Davies Learning Center at Helen Hayes in West Haverstraw, local police officers and CPS-certified technicians will be on-hand to perform child safety seat checks to ensure the correct installation of car seats, and to address the condition of the seats and potential recall status. The release reports that if necessary, arrangements will be made to replace recalled or damaged seats.

For more information on the event contact Sandy Fini, Outpatient Neurology at (845) 786-4321 or Ann Taylor at the learning center (845) 786-4595.
