MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute at Long Beach Memorial has been accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for a 3-year period for its inpatient rehabilitation program, according to a recent news release.

The release notes that the accreditation is the second consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that CARF has awarded to Long Beach Memorial. The accreditation is intended to recognize MemorialCare Rehabilitation’s commitment to quality improvement by meeting internationally recognized standards in rehabilitation services.

The release reports that an organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation has undergone a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an onsite visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality.

Jason Koh, DO, medical director, MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute, Long Beach Memorial, emphasizes that the facility’s mission centers on helping patients recover from acute neurological conditions, traumatic injuries or debilitating illnesses, and regain quality of life and independence.

“This accreditation is a demonstration of our care team’s dedication to quality improvement and constant focus on delivering the best patient and family centered care,” Koh says.

This dedication finds its roots in an update to the clinical model in 2009, which the release says focused on developing innovative patient and family centered care, leading to the creation of the “vertical therapy team.” The team is designed to follow each patient through the continuum of care, limiting the amount of different therapists that care for the patient. The vertical therapy team is reported to hold unique skills to match the needs of each patient, regardless of where they are in the treatment continuum.

Pamela Chevreauz, vice president, ambulatory services, Long Beach Memorial, articulates the organization’s honor in receiving the accreditation, adding “…We will use the CARF standards as a guide to excellence as we continue to provide a great patient experience and transition back to the community.”
