Splint Offers Support and Relief from Discomfort for Thumb CMC Joint
A thumb CMC restriction splint intended to support the thumb CMC joint while allowing for full finger function is available through North Coast Medical, Gilroy, Calif. The Comfort Cool Thumb CMC Restriction Splints are wrap-around supports comprised of thin, 1/16-inch perforated neoprene with a terry cloth liner designed to keep skin cool and comfortable.
The product is specifically built for osteoarthritis (OA) and medial subluxation of the thumb joint. The splints are also intended to offer users gentle compression to help relieve thumb discomfort linked to CMC joint arthritis and/or instability, tendinitis, or repetitive motion.
It also features reinforced stitching to allow the splint to be trimmed below the thumb MP joint if desired, according to the company’s website. The contoured neoprene strap wraps around the thumb CMC joint and the first metacarpal for direct CMC joint support.
The site also notes that plus sizes are a half size bigger in the hand a full size larger in thumb circumference to accommodate enlarged thumb conditions.
