Marianjoy Scholarship Program Issues Highest Funding to Date

The amount of scholarship funding awarded by the Marianjoy Scholarship Program, designed to assist individuals with disabilities who are pursuing a college degree, recently reached an all-time high in the program’s 20-year history. The program celebrated its 20th anniversary on June 5, according to a Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital news release.

The release reports that this year, the Marianjoy Scholarship Program awarded more than $57,000 in scholarships to 23 young men and women with disabilities from the Chicagoland area seeking post-high school education. The recipients are studying a variety of subjects, including architecture, literature, medicine, computer science, broadcasting, and teaching. To date, the program has reportedly provided more than $750,000 to students.

The scholars for this year, the release says, which include current or former Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital patients, demonstrated academic excellence and are attending colleges and universities across the country, including Purdue University, Indiana University, the University of Alabama, St. Louis University, North Central College, Valparaiso University, Hope College, and others.

Kathleen Yosko, Marianjoy president and CEO, credits the scholarship program to the contributions of the organization’s donors, adding “We’re proud that every dollar we receive for the program goes directly to these exceptional students and helps provide them with the resources they need to succeed.”
