The first event of Ride 2 Recovery’s (R2R) Honor Rides, one-day events held nationwide to raise money and promote awareness of the R2R program and its support of cycling programs at military and VA locations around the US to help healing heroes, kicks off April 12 in San Jose, Calif at the Amgen Tour of California Gold Series.

The ride will begin at Lake Cunningham Park and feature three routes of 25, 48, and 77 miles. R2R notes that cycle portions of the Amgen Tour of California course with medium and long routes present a challenging climb to Mt. Hamilton. For novice cyclists, the organization notes that a shorter 25-mile route offers an enjoyable riding experience with minimal climbing through the San Jose area closer to the start/finish location of Lake Cunningham Park.

R2R states on its website that it produced by the Fitness Challenge, a (501C3) in partnership with the Military and VA Volunteer Service Office to benefit physical and mental rehabilitation programs for the country’s wounded veterans and healing heroes, featuring cycling as the core activity. The organization designates cycling as a key part of the recovery process, since it is an activity that everyone can do, no matter the disability, and helps speed up the recovery process.
