Electric Vehicle Customized for Wheelchair Users Debuts at Abilities Expo

The Chairiot solo electric vehicle, engineered specifically for drivers in wheelchairs, was recently showcased at the Los Angeles Abilities Expo. According to a company news release, Chairiot Mobility Inc, Riverside, Calif, is introducing the car into North America. The company adds that the first deliveries of the product are slated to take place this spring.

The vehicle’s rear door is designed to open with the push of a button. A steel ramp provides street- or curb-level access and entry into the vehicle. Chairiot states that using a rugged floor dock, the wheelchair locks into position, allowing the driver to secure a traditional three-point seat belt for additional safety. The electric Chairiot solo can reportedly travel up to 50 miles on a single 110-volt charge and can be operated on local streets at speeds up to 25 miles per hour, or 35 miles per hour in some states and local jurisdictions.
