Lock Design Secures Manual Wheelchair Wheels at Hub
In place of traditional scissors-style brakes, D’s Locks, San Diego, offers manual wheelchair users the ability to lock wheels through the use of hub locks. The locks are also intended to help reduce fall risk during transfer in and out of the wheelchair. The user can flip the lock lever, causing the product’s piston to go into the lock-ring hole and allowing the user to lock both hubs in place.
The wheelchair locks are designed to be engaged and disengaged easily, and their handles can be mounted nearly anywhere for user convenience. The company notes that the locks are lightweight, do not add width to most chairs, and fit most everyday and institutional chairs. The wheel can also be removed or replaced when the locks are engaged.
