SCVMC Announces Its Third Annual Brain Injury Conference

brain-confIn a recent news release, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) notes that it will be hosting the 2013 Santa Clara Valley Brain Injury Conference, held in San Jose, Calif, February 28 to March 2. The release also reports that a variety of nationally and internationally recognized leaders in brain injury and rehabilitation research will discuss topics ranging from brain injuries in sports, to service veterans with head trauma, and the role of technology in healing and rehabilitation during the event.

Stephanie Kolakowsky-Hayner, conference chair, director of the Rehabilitation Research Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, highlights the center’s excitement in holding the event for a third year.

“Conference participants will have a multitude of opportunities to network and learn about innovative advancements in brain injury research, advocacy, and treatment options,” Kolakowsky-Hayner says.

The event is designed to appeal to therapists, physicians, nurses, social workers, administrators, researchers, advocates, sports coaches, parents, individuals with brain injury, and family members/caregivers. Santa Clara Valley Medical Center notes that 2013 topics scheduled to be discussed during the conference include long-term issues following brain injury; new understandings of brain injury and plasticity; assisting at-risk populations such as soldiers, athletes, and children; and the use of technology and other advances to improve outcomes.

The conference will also offer scholarships for individuals with brain injury and their family members/caregivers, the center says.
