On March 30, marking the 20th anniversary of the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR), prominent researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders, gathered at a Capitol Hill briefing to hear about the advances in rehabilitation research.
Alan E. Guttmacher, MD, director of the National Institutes of Health’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, which houses NCMRR, led off a panel discussion that included Richard K. Shields, PT, DPT, PhD, and Alan M. Jette, PT, PhD.
The experts discussed innovative research, the detrimental effects of secondary conditions, such as pressure ulcers and depression, in patients with spinal cord injury, and using virtual technology to complement face-to-face clinician visits.
